Ka Leody denies FB pages posing as supporters
MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman has disowned and reported six Facebook (FB) pages posing as his supporters in a crusade against fellow opponents in the May 9 election.
The bogus pages touted the investigative leads of one candidate in particular, the son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
De Guzman, in a statement late Thursday, said he and his campaign team had observed over the past few weeks the emergence of fake Facebook pages posing as volunteers for his presidential campaign.
Upon closer examination of those pages, De Guzman said he discovered that the accounts defamed all of the other presidential candidates, “except one.”
“Clearly this is run by online trolls as they are under one network sharing these posts [of these pages]”said the union leader.
These Facebook pages were named “Ka Lodi Sakalam Supporters”, “Ka Leody-Visayas Support”, “Ka Leody Supporters 2022”, “Ka Leody Support-BICOL”, “Ka Leodycakes Natin Support” and the “Leody bells” .
Among these pages, the “Leody bells” account was already not available on Facebook at the time of going to press.
On one particular page, verified by the Inquirer, the “Ka Leody Support-BICOL” published an article calling Robredo “weak” and “dilawan (yellow)”, a punch from staunch critics of the liberal party once in the power, to which the vice-president remains president of the party and her running mate, Senator Francis Pangilinan, president of the party.
